The aim of drug discovery research field is discovery of the small molecule chemicals which can be developed into globally innovate drugs, and finally making a contribution toward promotion of health and welfare of human-being.
With this in mind, we proceed intensified studies at focused target research area and for major therapeutic diseases and are collaborating with many researchers to expand global research capacity.


A. Focused target research area : we focus on the research of various transcription factors and major cofactors to activate them.

B. Major therapeutic diseases : we concentrate on anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory agents of which we have established research systems which can confirm the correlation between mechanisms of action and the diseases.

C. Expansion of global research capacity : we have established C&C Research Labs as a research-oriented joint venture with Chugai-Roche (Japan) and a laboratory in Seattle, USA. By collaboration partnership and etc. with other overseas research institutes, we are expanding our research capacities continuously.

D. Strengthening of our own research capability : Beside of high throughput screening system, we give our efforts to establish high contents screening system, as a kind of the most advanced research technology. With two-, three-dimensional analysis results of screening even though one-dimensional ones, we are on the improve to confirm a correlation with mechanisms of action.
 
1. Development of anti-cancer agents

1) Anti-colorectal cancer agents : We are the first runner to have developed the anti-cancer agents which target TCF4 signaling pathway blocking transcription factors, CBP/beta-catenin binding. We are on-going the research collaboration with Chugai-Roche in Japan. Colorectal cancer patients occur over 400,000 a year in major 7 countries, and the market size of colorectal cancer is expected to reach 2 billion dollars in 2006. We are proceeding the preclinical study of CWP231 compounds, in case of success of the project, we¡¯re expected to have such as remarkable competitiveness as we can reshape the anti-colorectal cancer agents market.

2) Anti-angiogenetic cancer treatments : We are developing more safe & effective anti-cancer agents which inhibit an angiogenesis of tumor by targeting HIF-1 alpha transcription factor.

2. Development of anti-inflammatory agents


We are concentrating on the research of various transcription factors and enzyme inhibitors to develop novel therapeutic agents of chronic inflammatory disease, such as asthma and arthritis. CWP271 compound shows an excellent effect on arthritis in vivo models. We are developing more safe and innovative agents for chronic inflammatory disease.
 
1. Chemistry synthesis
We effectively synthesize various compounds in a short time through combinatorial chemistry technology and small molecule chemicals which block protein-protein or protein-DNA binding as a major target. Synthesis of Focused library is chemistry research specialized for maximized efficient synthesis. We also have BEST compound library which have potent drug-likeness with priority given to core templates protected by patent.

2. Target identification & validation
We use genomic and proteomic methods as best known way to identify the target, for identification of the target molecules. We are going on the research about signal transduction of major transcription factors.

3. Screening
For effective screening synthesized compound library through combinatory chemistry, we manage automated High throughput Screening and find out corelation between target moleculs and active compound with fucntional assays. We try to set the newest technology, High Contents Screening systems.
The setup of HCS systems is expected to shorten periods of development and maximize precision of screening.

4. Pharmacology & Toxicology
We have various in vivo models which can evaluate candidate compounds for anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory agents. We also perform target validation with functional genomics through gene modified mice. and at same time, we are going to set in silico toxicological screening method for evaluating toxicity in earlier development stage.

5. Pharmacokinetics
We perform pharmacokinetic evaluations of various candidates in short time with High-Throughput PK Screening, and provide essential information for development of new drugs with confirming in vivo pharmacodynamics with animal models and then predicting pharmacokinetics in human body system.

6. CADD
With drug design using computers, we confirm the active structure of compounds, and significantly reduce time-interval to discover new compound through high effective search using virtual library and bioinformatics.

We are going on joint research of CWP231 project with Chugai-Ro Corp. who has abundant experiences of new drug development. C&C Research Labs. that co-operate with Chugai-Ro and ChoongWae, builds up core technologies and accumulates information for new drug development.
