JW ChoongWae Pharma Corporation made a show of research capabilities in the field of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) synthesis since developing tetracyclines like ¡°Lysinomycin¡± in 1969, and then established Central Research Institute. based on accumulated technologies and manpower. In addition, JW ChoongWae established other institute, C&C Research Labs., as the first research-oriented joint venture, in Korea, with a Japanese Corporation, Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in 1992, and has pioneered the discovery of NCEs (New Chemical Entities). JW ChoongWae co-found anti-asthma & anti-arthritis agents with Molecumetics Ltd. (USA) in 1998, and built the target identification & validation systems based on chemogenomics through joint researches with PNRI (Pacific Northwest Research Institutes) in 2000. In 2001, JW ChoongWae established another institute, specially chemogenomics focused research institute, in Seattle. JW ChoongWae has discovered new targets using biotechnologies and concentrated on searching new therapeutic chemicals for the conquest of difficult-to-cure diseases. This R&D approach has allowed us remarkable results such as approval of Q-Roxin (balofloxacin, quinolone antibiotic), the first NCE of which phase III clinical trials have been successfully completed in Korea, in Dec 2001.
